Tu texto · propuesta original (30 ago 2026)
This research proposal addresses the limited learner autonomy observed among ninth-grade EFL students at La Esperanza Rural School, particularly their dependence on teacher guidance and their limited use of planning, monitoring, and self-evaluation during regular classroom activities. In response to this situation, the study aims to analyze how the implementation of these metacognitive strategies influences learner autonomy within a rural EFL context. To support this purpose, the proposal is grounded in the relationship among metacognition, metacognitive strategies, learner autonomy, and pedagogical mediation.
Methodologically, the study will follow a qualitative action research design involving the 26 ninth-grade students during one four-week intervention cycle. Throughout this process, planning, monitoring, and self-evaluation will be incorporated into regular English lessons through a Metacognitive Learning Record. At the same time, data will be collected through a Learner Autonomy Self-Assessment Checklist, participant observation, a Teacher-Researcher Observation Journal, and selected classroom products. These sources will be analyzed through thematic analysis, temporal comparison, and triangulation. In this way, the study is expected to provide a contextualized understanding of how students demonstrate learner autonomy before, during, and after the intervention and how metacognitive strategies can be integrated into regular rural EFL classroom practices.
